Microsoft has officially announced the cancellation of Platinum Games’ Xbox One exclusive game, the dragon-faring Scalebound. It comes just a few short months after Microsoft and Platinum showed the game off at Gamescom 2016 in Germany, so it’s a little surprising to have the new suddenly thrust out into the public domain.
Microsoft’s statement on the cancellation reads:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.”
It’d be a lie to say we’re not disappointed to see the game cancelled, though there were a few clues that Microsoft and Platinum weren’t getting along to well; after last year’s Gamescom, the game’s director took to Twitter to openly criticise Microsoft. Ouch…
